Michelle Hoover is a novelist, writer, teacher, and founder and current head of the Novel Incubator program at GrubStreet. She was a 2014 NEA Fellow, Writer-In-Residence at Bucknell University, a MacDowell Fellow, winner of the PEN / New England Discovery Award, and current Fannie Hurst Writer-in-Residence at Brandeis University. Her writing has been published in Prairie Schooner, The Massachusetts Review, Confrontation, StoryQuarterly, and TriQuarterly and has earned nominations for the Pushcart Prize and been published in Best New American Voices. Her debut novel, The Quickening, was shortlisted for the Center for Fiction’s Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize and Finalist for the Indies Choice Debut of 2010. Her most recent work, Bottomland, is, according to Kirkus, a “deftly imagined and written” novel of survival and family ties set in the isolated and brooding landscape of the early-twentieth-century American Midwest.
