Joi Ito

Joi Ito is an activist, entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and director of the MIT Media Lab. An early investor in web companies including Twitter, Flickr, and Kickstarter, he is an advocate for emergent democracy, privacy, and internet freedom. He holds an honorary D.Litt from The New School, an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Tufts University, and received the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oxford Internet Institution. Having served as both board chair and CEO of Creative Commons, he is a current board member of the New York Times Company, Sony Corporation, Digital Garage, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. His forthcoming work, Whiplash, co-authored with Jeff Howe, lays out principles for success in navigating the ever-increasing pace of change in our digital world.
