Michael E. Porter

Michael E. Porter is widely recognized as the father of modern business strategy. He is a University Professor at Harvard Business School, where he is the head of the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness. Porter’s work applies the language of economics to corporate strategy, governments, and social policy, including healthcare and the environment. He has served as an advisor and consultant to top management in numerous leading U.S. and international companies and routinely advises national leaders in numerous countries on competitiveness. Originally trained as an engineer, Porter later received his MBA from Harvard Business School and a PhD in business economics from Harvard University. He has founded several nonprofits whose missions are informed by his scholarly work. Porter’s nearly twenty books include Competitive Strategy, On Competition, and Redefining Health Care.
